Negro attacked by a jaguar by Henri Rousseau

I found this image on the cover on a library book on naive art that I took out over the summer. The composition seems to be bursting full, apart from the upper half of the image where it breaks into a calm sky. Despite the several different shapes that appear within the image, it is fairly one-dimensional and looks to be extremely flat. The limited palette accentuates the naive qualities of this painting.
